In Australia we subscribe to the belief of a fair go for all and, at Foodbank, we think that means everyone having enough to eat. It’s time to put the growing food security problem on the national agenda and commit to ensuring there is food for all. We’re grateful to Zambrero for joining the fight against hunger in our own backyard.
Geoff Starr, CEO Foodbank Australia
When Zambrero became aware of the alarming number of people going hungry right here in Australia we had to do something about it.
In June 2014 we extended our Plate 4 Plate program to support Foodbank, Australia’s largest food relief organisation, by introducing a range of retail products.
Simply buy one of our delicious muesli bars, brownies or a pack of super nutritious black rice to cook at home and you’re funding breakfast, lunch or dinner for a hungry Australian.
Zambrero donates a Foodbank breakfast of cereal and milk for every muesli bar we sell. We donate a Foodbank meal of rice and beans for every packet of black rice or brownie we sell.
Foodbank assists 644,000 Australians with food relief each month through activities such as packing and distributing food parcels.
Foodbank works with over 700 partners, including farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers, who contribute surplus and donated food and groceries for redistribution. Last year alone it collected 33 million kilos of food destined to be dumped and turned it into 60 million meals.
Unfortunately, hunger in Australia is escalating. 75% of charities report not having enough food to meet current demand and 43,000 Australians are being turned away empty handed each month due to a shortage of food and resources.
To bridge that gap, in addition to our everyday donations through retail product sales, in October we’ll be packing Stop Hunger Now meals especially for Foodbank to distribute to Australia’s neediest communities.
